🧭 The Struggle
You come back from a week away. For three days, maybe four, you feel different. The sharpness is gone. You respond instead of react. Then someone cuts you off in traffic, or a Slack message lands wrong, and suddenly you’re right back where you were before you left.
The vacation worked. You felt it. But now the same friction is back, the same triggers, the same erosion. You thought the break would fix something permanent. Instead, it bought you a few good days before the environment you left behind started pulling you back under.
You know the next trip won’t solve it either. The problem isn’t that you need more time away. The problem is that you haven’t trained the return.
👉 The Return Loop — How to navigate the cycle of drift and regulation
🎯 What You’re Training
You are training equanimity — the capacity to meet emotional disruption without being governed by it. That means you can feel frustration, disappointment, or overwhelm without letting those states dictate your next move.
In our latest reflection (The Recovery You Bring Home), we named the relationship between inner peace and emotional regulation. Peace of mind isn’t the absence of disturbance. It’s the ability to return to baseline after disturbance happens. The Katas below train that return. They give you a protocol for interrupting the erosion before it compounds into drift.
There’s also a second benefit: evidence. Each time you run a kata and return to baseline, you prove to yourself that regulation is possible. That proof builds the confidence to attempt return earlier next time, before the disruption locks in.

⚡ The Katas
Katas are short, named practices. Each one takes 30–120 seconds. Practice them on easy days so they’re automatic when stress hits.
1️⃣ The Physiological Sigh
Based on research by Dr. Andrew Huberman (Stanford)
This kata trains rapid nervous system down-regulation. Use it when your chest feels tight or your thoughts start looping. You will notice the shift from activation to calm within two cycles.
