Hello community, and welcome to a new edition of What Is Your Purpose?
This biweekly series invites authors from Substack and beyond to share their “why,” the spark that drives them, and the heart behind their work.
Today’s feature is someone who has become a familiar face in this community.
and I have collaborated on multiple projects, from her thoughtful newsletter Mindful Moments to her recent contribution to Spotlight, our quarterly feature series. Even so, there’s still so much more to learn about what drives her.In today's piece, Grace opens up about the motivations behind her work and what fuels her journey, which has been nothing short of incredible.
So, without further ado, let's welcome Grace Grossmann.
You hear this question and you’re like, “shit, what purpose?” or you’re like “, sure, I know”.
Today, we’re living on both sides of the spectrum: people aligned with their purpose and others who are lost, not knowing who they are.
I have been on both sides (sounds like I’m from Star Wars lol), and I still stand here to remind you who you are.
Hold on tight, today I will remind you how to feel bright:
How my story brings light to others and reminds them of their purpose.
If you’re here with no idea, I got you.
We all have a purpose, and it is simpler than you think.
I’ll let you in on it at the end, but to begin with, there are:
2 big reasons why most people are suffering on a worldwide level:
Research proves the rise in suffering on a mental, physical, and spiritual level all over the world in the past decade. Do you see it and feel it?
The majority of people suffer in our society with stress-ridden illnesses like chronic diseases, mental health issues, worldwide loneliness, plus all the other manifestations of feeling “lost” with breakdowns and psychosis, to mention a few (and what I have also been through…)
After working with hundreds of people from 20 to 60 odd as a well-being coach and yoga teacher, I have finally realised the common theme with everyone:
Lack of meaning
Make wrong decisions
Simply put, our suffering stems from the lack of presence in daily lives.
A lack of purpose leads to living on autopilot.
Our nature of love has been overriden by stressful, on-the-go lives. We don’t have “enough time” to listen to our intuition but live on autopilot.
It is something my younger 20-something-year-old self was already aware of. This soul-driven purpose to help others made me not jump into a full-time job after university, but commit myself to soul-searching and giving (and suffering and learning!) time and time again.
Again, here I am soul diving, writing in Costa Rica, my new home, I moved to alone to start a new phase of life as a kindergarten teacher in what LITERALLY LOOKS LIKE PARADISE.
Anywayyyyyyyys, now you know two big reasons why you suffer, I will show you the core of how to do less and be more.
Through this method, you realign with your purpose.
What if we were to ask others WHAT their purpose is and not what their jobs are?
Who am I, and why me?
Over the past decade, I have dedicated myself to helping others.
Along the way, I lost myself.
I didn’t realise I also had to prioritise myself and was giving from an empty cup. So I experienced psychosis in the end.
Now I am glad and see I had to fall, to return and share it all.
I studied journalism and Spanish, thinking I would be a journalist, but turned out all I learnt led me to know I would not want to restrict myself to writing on others' terms and conditions while ignoring my big purpose within (to remind others of their light within).
I’ve always been pretty grounded in my purpose as a lightworker. Through listening wholeheartedly and knowing others’ struggles from speaking with them for a few minutes, I have nurtured this power over the past decade in many facets.
I am a writer at heart, dabbled in copywriting and freelance writing. I have been a yoga teacher for the past 8 years and a holistic healer, helping sensitive souls realise the power of the presence in daily life to let stress go and allow life and love to flow.
I lost my best friend at 23 to mental health issues, and since then dedicated myself to helping sensitive souls feel whole through my self-help book written during my grieving process.
Since then, I started again and again. Not setbacks, but gifts to restart and realign.
Here’s more about me.
What is my purpose?
My purpose is simple, if you didn’t realise it by now: follow my heart and pursue my passions.
Do things that make me feel alive and thrive.
Live for now and let go of yesterday or tomorrow.
Travel, meet new people, have deep conversations, live through the low and high vibrations, and take everything with a pinch of salt by asking myself
“What lesson is this trying to tell me?”
Sure, not everyone is here to live their passions as intensely as I do. We are all different.
Don’t fall into the trap of comparison, but reconnect with who you are meant to be:
Live in love and feel free.
How to know your purpose?
Ok, so there is no one resolution to know your purpose, but I am positive that people help us realise our purpose.
The more like-minded people you let into your life to help you reflect and realise things about yourself, the more certain you are of what your purpose is here.
Think of it like this: every person in your life serves as a mirror.
They reflect to you things that you may not have yet learned or bring out the answers that you have been seeking.
This dedication is to your higher vibration.
If you aren’t dedicated yet, then let yourself be. There is so much noise out there, so don’t be put off by people misleading you, but become grounded in who you are.
I hear you: HOW?
Our purpose is to be together, create for one another, and help each other.
Our purpose is to love and be loved.
When you join like-minded communities that bring the best out of you, then you grow exponentially.
From book clubs, dance lessons, yoga classes and the rest, there is something out there for you.
Together, we learn better and realise our true potential.
This is why I made my online community, Healing Hearts Hub, so you can connect with other like-minded people to feel, deal, and heal.
My community is something I needed when I was lonely and depressed.
Now it is an honour for me to make this community for others who feel their healing is not for them to navigate solo, but to set heartfelt intentions daily, so they can grow intentionally.
It is an honour for me to lead a loving community with vulnerability.
In the past few months, I have noticed how others share their real-life news and not sugarcoat it; it is an invitation for others to feel heard, seen, and understood.
So do you wanna feel seen and heard? This will steer you towards your purpose.

Thanks Camilo for letting me be a part of this :) writing has always driven me in my purpose to help people feel, deal, and heal. Becoming emotionally intelligent will help you become more confident, calm, and courageous, I promise.
Thanks to you, Grace, for sharing this deeply personal part of your journey with us. Your reflections don’t just tell us about your own purpose; they invite us to reflect on our own paths and remind us that purpose isn’t something we have to wait for. It’s something we can build, piece by piece, through our actions and choices.
One part of Grace’s piece that really struck me was her reminder: don’t just ask people about their job; ask them about their purpose. That resonates deeply because it ties directly to identity. For years, I tied mine to being “an engineer.” The problem with that is it only takes one shake in your job situation to make your sense of self feel unstable. Purpose, on the other hand, is steadier. It’s something that doesn’t crumble when circumstances shift.
If you really want to know someone, skip the job title and ask them what lights them up. Ask what keeps them up at night or what they’d spend their time doing if money were no object. Those are the questions that uncover dreams, spark change, and help build something meaningful, whether that’s a fulfilling life or a sustainable business.
To finalize, my takeaway boils down to my hoping that Grace’s words inspire you to explore your own “why” in more depth. That you get the direction you need, and that once it is discovered or built, you can use it as a motivation, as the fuel to reach your goals.
Thank you all for reading and being part of this community.
Have a wonderful week!
