Welcome to My Brain 🙃 – It’s Good to Be Back!
A lot has changed since I last wrote anything, and I’m excited to start sharing more regularly. Why, you may ask? Three simple reasons:
I need to exercise my writing muscle.
Writing helps me process life (and trust me, a lot has happened).
I’m on a mission to master discipline.
Flexing the Writing Muscle
For a while now, I’ve been following Stoic principles, but I’ve always dodged journaling—the bread and butter of Stoic practice. Weird, right? I love reading, and writing is like therapy for me, but I’ve just never made it a consistent habit. Maybe we’ll dive into that in another post.
Mastering Discipline
Discipline is something I’m committed to mastering, and it’ll be the theme running through most of what I share here. Whether it’s a brain dump or a more polished article, expect to see discipline popping up again and again.
Let’s Set Expectations…
This space is where I’ll share my thoughts, experiences, and what I’m learning. Right now, I’m not planning to monetize this—it’s valuable to me, and I hope it’ll be valuable to you too. If this ever grows into something bigger, who knows? Maybe it’ll lead to collaborations, networking, or even investing in cool projects. And if it buys me a coffee (or a beer), I’m not saying no 🙈.
I won’t be plastering this all over social media—not really my cup of tea. You might see a post here and there in LinkedIn, but if you enjoy my content, feel free to share it for me! I’ll focus on the writing.
Why Discipline, and Why Now?
Okay, story time!
I’m the kind of person who loves spicing up stories when hanging out with friends, but here I’ll keep it real. Since I last wrote—September 2019, in Spanish (my native language!)—a lot has changed.
Here’s a quick recap of the last five years:
Bought a condo.
Got engaged.
Got married.
Changed jobs.
Bought a house.
Became a dad.
Changed jobs again.
Yeah, it’s been a ride. I’ve never experienced so much change in such a short time, and honestly, it was overwhelming at first. When I got my first property, instead of celebrating, I told my wife, “What did I just do?”
In 2019, I hit a low point with anxiety. I sought therapy and went through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which helped me regain control. If you’re struggling with anxiety or depression, know that there’s a way out—and someone who cares. If you feel alone, hit me up by clicking the button below. I’ve got you (just don’t try to sell me stuff 😅).
Anxiety never fully disappears, but I’ve learned to manage it, and I’ve made peace with that. CBT, Stoicism, and Buddhism readings have been game-changers in keeping me grounded.
Discipline in Action
My brain is constantly buzzing with ideas, which makes it tough to focus and stick to good habits. But that’s where discipline comes in. I’m learning that it’s not enough to just know something—you’ve got to live it.
I found this quote from Marcus Aurelius that hit me hard:
“We should discipline ourselves in small things, and from these progress to things of greater value.”
It reminded me of the 1% rule: improve by 1% each day, and after a year, you’re 37x better. Discipline is key to that progress.
Is it easy? Nope. But I’ve started to see changes in the little things, and that gives me hope. I’m becoming the kind of person I want my kids to look up to.
Let’s see if I can stay disciplined enough to keep writing here consistently (maybe weekly or bi-weekly?). Only time will tell!
